No doubt, the central theme of the Bible is love because God is…love. Some people probably told you that God’s love referred to as the “Gospel”. The word gospel simply means “The Good News”, because of what Jesus Christ has done for us. The word itself is derived from “god-spell” an Old English word. It is derived however from the Greek.
Because God loves us, He sacrificed His only Son for us. The love in the bible is different from other types of love. Agape is love which is of and from God. It represents divine, unconditional, self-sacrificing, active, volitional, and thoughtful love, the highest and purest form of love.
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. —John 3:16 (NIV)
We as human definitely can’t practise this type of love (agape), but since love is the central theme of the Bible, how many of us as Christians do practise love in our daily life.
We keep busying with our daily works, we keep busying with making money, we keep busying this and we keep busying that until we don’t realize and notice that a lot of people around the world need our love, need our helps. Putting love into action is actually putting what you have learnt from the Bible into action. We don’t just read the Bible, but we practise what we have learnt from the Bible.
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ – Matthew 22:37-39 (NIV)
